Go Racoon - Fuel Differences

Gho Rock Hoon - Kyu Kwon

Gho Rock Hoon - Fuel Differences

Kathryn:
“Do we have enough fuel?”

Rock Hoon (Mister Goh):
“Yes, I filled it up with premium gas.”

Gho Rock Hoon - Kyu Kwon

Kathryn:
“Are there any differences between regular gas and premium gas?”

Rock Hoon:
“Well, it depends on cars.”
----
Rock Hoon:
“Premium gas has higher octane number than regular gas ...

... let me explain about knock first.”

Gho Rock Hoon - Kyu Kwon

Rock Hoon continues:
“4 stroke gasoline engine makes its power through the process of  [L - R] intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust.”

Gho Rock Hoon - Kyu Kwon

“If you have 2 engines with same displacement, the engine with higher compression ratio delivers more power.”

“Some engines are using forced induction system like turbocharger to give more compression.”

Gho Rock Hoon - Kyu Kwon

“As you may know, when one compresses the air, the temperature goes up.”

“If one compresses air too much, the air gets too hot and burns the mixture before it's supposed to.”

“When an engine develops premature ignition, it causes some strong shock wave and makes abnormal noise.” [this makes for one 'ticked-off' spark plug]

Gho Rock Hoon - Kyu Kwon

“It is called knock.  Knock reduces engine power and can damage engine as well, if this occurs at high rpm.”

“Octane is an index of a fuel's ability to resist engine knock.”

“There are some differences between the measurement methods of octane.”

Gho Rock Hoon - Kyu Kwon

“The most common type of octane rating worldwide is the Research Octane Number (RON).”

“Another type of octane rating, called Motor Octane Number (MON).”

“In the United States, Canada, Brazil, and some other countries, the headline number is the average of the RON and the MON, called the Anti-Knock Index (AKI).”

Gho Rock Hoon - Kyu Kwon

“Most cars are tuned for regular gasoline, one doesn’t have any performance benefit using premium gas in a car designed to use regular gas.”

Gho Rock Hoon - Kyu Kwon

“On the other hand, one may see a decrease of performance if they used regular gas for a car designed for premium gas. In some cases, this may cause engine damage.”

Gho Rock Hoon - Kyu Kwon

Kathryn:
“I heard premium gas is also useful for older cars as well.”

Junqyard Dog:
“That’s right. Older cars tend to accumulate carbon deposit in combustion chamber and it makes compression ratio higher.

Gho Rock Hoon - Kyu Kwon

Junqyard continues:
"The carbon deposit also becomes heat source to cause detonation.”

Gho Rock Hoon - Kyu Kwon

“Premium gas is necessary to prevent knock on high performance engine with high compression ratio. Any turbocharged/supercharged engine, and modified engine for higher output would require premium fuel as well.”

Gho Rock Hoon - Kyu Kwon

Rock Hoon:
“The more one compresses the spring, it will jump [like a frog] higher when released. Compressed fuel mixture works the same way.”

** Rock Hoon farts **

Bear (thinking to self):
“Wow, that smells pretty bad."

Junqyard (thinking to self):
"What the hell did Rock Hoon eat?!”

Gho Rock Hoon - Kyu Kwon

Goh Rock Hoon:
“The fuel mix holds more compression before the ignition delivers more power just like the fart holds longer to deliver stronger odor.

Isn’t it a good demonstration about the octane?”

Kathryn:
“Gosh, Please open the window."

Gho Rock Hoon - Kyu Kwon
Junqyard Dog:
“What you just demonstrated Rock Hoon is more similar to methane ... than octane - grrrrrr!!”
